Introduction to geographic information systems (GIS).Public health professionals in all roles are encouraged to come and learn fundamentals of this important technology, with a focus on its value to public health research and practice. 
Some examples of GIS’s many uses will be provided, such as:

  • determining geographic distribution of diseases
  • analyzing spatial and temporal trends
  • mapping populations at risk
  • monitoring diseases and interventions over time
