Taking Action to Prevent Chronic Disease: Recommendations for a Healthier Ontario

Public Health Ontario (PHO) has partnered with Cancer Care Ontario on a report to address the burden of chronic disease in Ontario. The report reviews evidence in support of reducing population-level exposure risk factors for chronic disease, building Ontario’s capacity for chronic disease prevention and ensuring all Ontarians have equal opportunities for health. It contains 22 evidence-informed recommendations for actions to prevent chronic disease.

Research, Education and Knowledge Exchange Services

Public Health Ontario (PHO) has developed a new program model to support the following key functions of public health practice in Ontario: applied research, program evaluation, education, professional development and knowledge exchange.
Ontario Risk and Behaviour Surveillance System (ORBSS) Project PHO is providing co-ordinated leadership and support for the planning ORBSS, a provincewide surveillance system aimed at producing estimates of health behaviours, attitudes and other risk factors.
PCIRN Vaccine Coverage Theme Public Health Ontario is taking part in the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) – Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Influenza Research Network (PCIRN), a pan-Canadian vaccine research network that conducts applied public health research in preparation for and during influenza pandemics.
